In solidarity with the Farmers’ Movement

Circular No.14/2017
To all Units, Office Bearers, CC & GC Members
Dear Comrades,
In solidarity with the Farmers’ Movement
The joint Forum of Farmers’ Organisations have given a call of country-wide protest by holding demonstrations, squatting, rallies on 16th June 2017 demanding, among others, (1) Implementation of Swaminathan Committees’ recommendation on minimum support price for the agricultural products, (2) Comprehensive Loan waiver Scheme for the farmers including the marginal farmers, (3) Withdrawal of notification banning cattle trade, (4) Resignation of present MP Government responsible for killing of six farmers etc. You will please recall that in the electioneering process to 16th Lok Sabha, present Prime Minister of the country promised for minimum support price for the agricultural products produced by the farmers that will provide them a net profit of 50% of the cost of production. But during the last 3 years nothing has been done by the present Government to fulfil the promise.
The irony of the situation is that the minimum support prices fixed by the Central Government do not even cover the cost of production. This situation is forcing many farmers to commit suicide in thousands during the past three years. When the farmers’ organisations are jointly taking up the issues of the farmers and organising protest actions in different states viz. Haryana, Tamilnadu, Maharastra and others, they became subjected to repressive measures from the local administration. The recent agitation of farmers in the State of MP had to face police firing in which six farmers were brutally killed. The situation is recent period has become further aggravated with the Government’s order banning cattle trade that has led to further distress for the farmers community. On behalf of our Federation we extend full support and solidarity with the call of the Bhumi Adhikar Andalon in which All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), our friendly organisation, is an important constituent. We call upon all our units to be in touch with the respective State Units of AIKS and other struggling organisations and extend all support for success of the programme on 16th June 2017.
With greetings,
Comradely yours,
(PRADIP BISWASH)
GENERAL SECRATARY
